I love the Oscars...well mostly I love the red carpet and then watch the awards after wards because I feel 'invested.' Lately award shows have been leaving me feeling underwhelmed to say the least. Not as many starlets are embracing fashion, I feel like I keep seeing the same thing over and over again. This award season however I had my favorites...Hailee Steinfeld, Mila Kunis, and Florence Welch (Florence and the Machine), these women have continuously wowed me every time their foot hits a red carpet.

This Oscars was no exception, I added Cate Blanchett in with my favorites. Many people were on the fence with this structural/romantic number done by Givenchy, but Cate has always dressed for fashion and I love it. This is a dress that made my jaw drop, she is always perfection!

I have been sporting Ombre style hair for awhile...not really on purpose though but as a result of a very small budget. I love the laid back look, however you can see it go very wrong. I think that if you are going to go for a trend, as with anything, you should make it your own. I love this take on this hair color trend. I love award season, it is essentially a fashion parade with little figurines given out. My favorite part would have to be the red carpet before hand, but really I could watch this on mute. 1. Mila Kunis is my favorite of these five lovely ladies. First off she's beautiful and this dress left me speechless when I first saw it. The fabric itself is phenomenal, the whole night I wanted her to do a great big twirl so I could see all the detail. The shape was romantic and sexy, it was flawless.

2. Hailee Steinfeld is going to be someone to watch at the Oscars. Her choices for her appearances for True Grit are fantastic. Not only is this dress on the nose for the 14 year old, but it fits perfectly. She looks young and not like she's trying to be 20. I think its hard for the young girls to dress for these events and she does a remarkable job!

3. All I have to say is I hope this look gets some love. This collection from Louis Vuitton is one of my favorites and I have been dieing for their to be more red carpet moments. Jennifer Lawerence also wore in at the Globes, and it was amazing.

4. Some may think I am crazy, but let me start by saying it's all about the dress. Her hair and makeup were a disconnect for me with the dress, but that color is so bright and rich! I didn't hate the bow, it is so Oscar. I give this girl props for going bold at her first award show.

5. Rosario Dawson's look to me was like a perfect Spring afternoon. The color was light, here jewelry was adorable and her hair was so on trend. She was a presenter and just dressed the part of beautiful girl at award show, she didn't try to show up the nominees. It was just one word: lovely.

WWD reported today that the eternally adorable Erin Featherston will be debuting a new contemporary line for Fall at New York fashion week. The line, aptly named Erin, evokes an intimate feel. Debuting at a much lower price point then her coveted ethereal name-sake collection, this line is more about the everyday woman. Focusing on reaching more of her fan base who is unable to afford her designs was Erin's goal when creating this line. After doing a gorgeous Target line and a collaboration at Juicy Couture, Erin is bringing her feminine touches into the everyday. She's utterly adorable, she even shot the lookbook below herself, sigh.

Trend or Foe?

Recently my boyfriend and I were discussing the idea of having style. Developing your own personal style can be tricky, but ultimately should be about expressing yourself and doing what makes you happy. Helena Bonham Carter is an extreme example of personal style, she dresses how she dresses because she does, not to impress anyone. That is how it should be.

Our discussion was focused how trends can spiral so out of control and that people become swallowed by them. The example thrown around was this idea of "the urban Elmer Fudd," guys who have probably never step their feet off of concrete dressing like John Muir because its fashionable.

The greatest fashion advice I have received and could ever pass along is that people with true style dress for themselves, interpreting trends they like into their wardrobe because they like them, not because it is trending. Ultimately clothing should be an example of yourself, not who you are. Below is a picture from Sartorialist of a gentlemen with great personal style, I also included the idea of dressing for a trend.

Basically I am trying to say that it doesn't matter how much money you have, or how many fashion magazines you read, fashion is an extension of who you are. Embrace it, love it, and never apologize for being who you are!

Thank you for Refinery 29 for rubbing in the fact that I have been cold for two solid months and in California they are experiencing 70's and Sun. With my graduation date looming (March...AHHH), my job hunt is moving further and further West.

Well after getting over an EPIC cold and being stuck inside for nearly a decade I decided that I needed some 'projects.' Here are two projects that I am hoping to tackle in the next few, very cold, months. I think that I am overly ambitious with the wrap, but I would just love to do this in Spring inspired neutrals. Baby It's Cold Outside...

Today was just short of unbearably freezing. The job hung keeps pulling me to warmer and warmer climates. Since I am fighting a cold I thought I would slap on some bright lipstick (Cranberry Cream, how cute!) and have some fun poising with my camera.

This sweater is one of my favorites! I got this at a sample sale in the Fall and I hate that I can't remember which one. This bleached chambray shirt is a layering essential, mixes it up without being just boring old white. Also notice my new favorite Pamela Love necklace?

Today was just short of freezing, and really the only item on the agenda was errands. Since I had a lot to do and many layers to bundle myself in I choose something simple. This sweatshirt is probably my favorite piece when I am in a rush, this floral print scarf as polka dots on the reverse side creating a fun focal point.

After the New Years two things happen in the fashion world, everything you were drooling over for the holidays goes on sale and everyone offers sneak peeks for Spring. There is both positive and negative effects of this trend, and lets start with the positive. (A new years resolution is to see things as good, rather than bad)

Positive: By knowing what will be big in Spring, you are prepared to look through super reduced merchandise and get some deals on Spring must-haves.

Negative: You are still stuck under a sweater and parka while sitting on your fashion gold mine.
